Why doesn’t a nuclear bomb create a chain reaction that destroys the entire planet?

Because real life is not Hollywood plus 4 reasons. Fission vs. Fusion : Nuclear bombs work on the principle of nuclear fission – splitting heavy atoms like uranium or plutonium. This releases energy, sure, but to destroy the entire planet? Not enough oomph. What you'd need is a fusion reaction, the kind that fuels stars. That involves lighter atoms like hydrogen fusing, and it's way more powerful. Think of fission as a firecracker, fusion as the sun. We're nowhere near making a fusion bomb as big as our planet. The Limits of Chain Reactions : Even in a fission bomb, the chain reaction doesn't run wild forever. The explosion itself scatters the nuclear fuel, disrupting the critical mass needed to sustain the reaction. It's like trying to keep a bonfire going by throwing the logs across the field. Dissipation of Energy : The colossal energy released by a nuke mostly disperses as heat, light, and a shockwave. Earth is just way too big to absorb all that and go kabloo...

Why can't Russia produce technologically advanced products and has to buy them from the West?

Frankly Russia is a nation that always has to be roused to deliver

They are always in general a nation that prefers taking the easier way out and taking life easily until the day push comes to shove.

Even during WWII, the Russians for the better part of 1941 and 1942 remained haphazard and idle and it wasn't until the Wehrmacht reached within 60 miles of Moscow that the Russians finally woke up and pushed back and turned the tide

There is a reason why communism worked for Russia.

The People didn't have the mindset needed for capitalism and free enterprise

After almost 500 years of Serfdom, Peasantry, Tsars, Okhrana and Bonded Labor - the Average Russian was simply not evolved enough for embracing the profit motive

Same reason why the Russians didn't develop their own advanced technology supply chain

No Long term view

They had Oil and Gas and Commodities and so felt importing everything else was the best thing to do

They maintained their Defence Industry of course and ensured they made indigenous chips and supplies for their military equipment

However commercial manufacturing was too cumbersome for a Nation that had a massive trade surplus and oodles and oodles of surplus dollars and euros

Much easier to import everything else

For a while before 2014, they even imported Cheese from Finland, Beer from Germany and Butter from Denmark and New Zealand

90% of their Chocolates were imported from Europe

They didn't assemble electronic products

They imported and sold

Even the Cars were primarily German and Japanese with every component imported and assembled on Russian lines

In 2014 - the first sanctions happened

They moved all manufacturing of food to within Russia by the same Finnish or Danish or German companies

They made a few components within Russia for Cars

They began to assemble laptops and computers within Russia albeit at a way higher price than Chinese imports

Now post 2022 - they finally started looking at their own supply chain

However even now Russia finds it easier to import Machinery from China and Components from China and assemble goods in Russia

They don't see the need to develop a huge commercial manufacturing base because they still have enough Oil and Gas and Coal and Titanium and Enriched Uranium to command any imports they want

As for Defence, their products are sufficiently advanced enough

Like a real bear, the Russian bear’s favorite past time is hibernating.

And like a real bear; once someone pokes the bear, annoys it and then awakens it, the awakened, annoyed & raging bear is unstoppable.

Once the enemy is vanquished, the bear goes back to sleep.
